#MCDHH seeks to contract with a team of highly skilled interpreter trainers, one Deaf and one ASL/Spoken English (CODA or hearing) to provide a workshop presented in person on Teaming with Deaf Interpreters in a variety of settings (can but doesn’t have to include platform interpreting). The workshop should address both consecutive and simultaneous interpreting. The workshop will be conducted in ASL in person for freelance and staff ASL/English and Deaf interpreters.

This three-day training will be held onsite in Massachusetts, on May 8 –10, 2026, Friday and Saturday, 9am – 5pm and Sunday, 9am – 4pm. Location to be announced.

Teaming with Deaf Interpreters will focus on all aspects of interpreter teaming (Deaf/hearing, Deaf/CODA, Deaf/Deaf, etc.). The workshop should explore how the team can master and utilize both consecutive and simultaneous interpreting techniques, depending on the setting. Proposals must outline consecutive interpreting techniques, tools and planned activities in the teaming context (for example: notetaking, mnemonic techniques, mind mapping, etc.). and simultaneous interpreting techniques, tools and planned activities in the teaming context (for example: signposting, road mapping, applying consecutive-like interpreting to the simultaneous interpreting task, etc.). Stimulus materials and the curriculum for this workshop should include a range of settings including (but not limited to) medical, mental health, human services, platform, trainings/meetings, SUD, and other settings as appropriate.

Qualified applicants’ proposals must include how they will address and/or incorporate the following elements during the workshop (or include alternative approaches with an explanation of how those would be equally effective):

- Teaming using consecutive interpretation - Teaming using simultaneous interpretation - Communication within the Team - Open Process - Reading Between the Signs: Intercultural Communication for Sign Language Interpreters – Anna Mindess, et al. - Demand Control Schema

Required qualifications:

- National RID/BEI certification or MA State Screening with documented expertise in the content areas listed above. - Availability to provide this 3-day workshop in person on May 8 –10, 2026, Friday and Saturday, 9am – 5pm and Sunday, 9am – 4pm in Massachusetts. - Documented experience co-teaching the training topics listed above.
