About the Role: We are seeking a skilled and passionate freelance translator to create accurate and engaging Filipino (Tagalog) subtitles for a variety of Korean video content. The ideal candidate is not just a linguist but also a cultural expert who can help bridge the gap between Korean media and the Filipino audience. You will be working on content such as K-dramas, variety shows, documentaries, and online media.
Key Responsibilities:
Translate spoken dialogue, on-screen text, lyrics, and other audio elements from Korean into natural and culturally appropriate Filipino (Tagalog).
Perform full subtitling tasks including spotting (timecoding), translation, editing, and proofreading.
Ensure all translations are culturally adapted, handling Korean-specific concepts, humor, slang, and honorifics in a way that resonates with a Filipino audience.
Strictly adhere to subtitling guidelines, including character count per line, reading speed, line breaks, and positioning.
Utilize subtitling software to create and sync subtitle files accurately.
Meet project deadlines and maintain consistent quality across all assignments.
Required Qualifications:
Native or near-native proficiency in Filipino (Tagalog) with exceptional writing skills.
Fluency in Korean is mandatory, with the ability to understand various accents, rapid speech, and colloquial language.
Proven experience in subtitle translation. Please provide examples of your work or a portfolio link with your application.
Technical proficiency with industry-standard subtitling software (e.g., Aegisub, Subtitle Edit).
In-depth knowledge of Korean culture, including current trends, pop culture (K-pop, K-drama), and social norms.
A strong understanding of subtitling rules and standards (timing, spotting, character limits).
Excellent attention to detail, commitment to quality, and ability to work independently.
Reliable internet connection and ability to meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with fansubbing groups or professional localization companies.
Familiarity with different video formats and codecs.
Knowledge of specific content genres (e.g., historical, legal, medical dramas).
