🌟 Exciting Opportunity to Join Our Project Team 🌟 We are seeking applications from individuals who have completed their M.A. in Tamil Linguistics or an equivalent degree from a recognized university to join our team as Junior Research Associates (Language) for the project β€œCentre for Indian Language Data”, funded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), in the School of Computer Engineering at Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal, India. The Centre for Indian Language Data is a two-year project funded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, to be executed in consortium mode, led by IIT Patna. Partnering institutions include IIT Delhi, IIIT Guwahati, IIIT Delhi, IGDTUW, and the Digital India Bhashini Division, DIC. The project aims to create language resources for Human Language Technology (HLT) and develop applications, standards, and guidelines for their use in building Machine Translation (MT) systems, benchmarking MT systems, and other Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools. MIT is responsible for developing parallel corpora for Dravidian languages, including Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu. Job Overview: The selected candidates will contribute significantly to the creation of a parallel corpus, which demands strong bilingual or multilingual proficiency for translating sentences between Tamil and target languages. Success in this role requires a deep grasp of linguistic nuances, idiomatic expressions, and the cultural contexts of both languages. The candidate must be able to accurately interpret and convey subtle variations in meaning, tone, and style, supported by solid expertise in part-of-speech tagging, morphology, and cultural adaptation to ensure precise and natural translations. Key Responsibilities: Utilize annotation tools and software platforms commonly used in corpus development. Review and evaluate the quality of annotations, identifying and correcting errors or areas for improvement. Apply basic knowledge of markup languages, such as XML, and adhere to annotation standards.
