As we evolve our product organization and deepen our presence in the U.S. market, we are hiring a Senior User Researcher based in New York to embed closely with our NYC-based product and commercial teams and drive high-impact, market-aware research.
THE ROLE
This is a true senior-level position responsible for shaping product strategy, influencing roadmaps, and raising the craft bar for research across the organization.
The Senior User Researcher will own complex research initiatives and act as a strategic partner to Product, Design, Data, and Commercial stakeholders. This role requires strong stakeholder leadership, executive-level communication, and the ability to operate autonomously in a fast-moving marketplace environment.
This position is intentionally NYC-based to enable deep, real-time collaboration with U.S. product teams, and to strengthen research coverage across time zones.
RESPONSIBILITIES
STRATEGIC RESEARCH LEADERSHIP
- Lead end-to-end research programs spanning discovery, validation, and post-launch evaluation.
- Drive research that shapes product strategy and accelerates growth, grounded in a deep understanding of both collector and gallerist needs across our two-sided marketplace.
- Partner on shaping research priorities, then autonomously design and execute robust research approaches that generate high-impact, decision-ready insights.
CROSS-FUNCTIONAL INFLUENCE
- Partner closely with NYC-based Product Managers, Design, Data, and Commercial stakeholders to proactively shape roadmaps.
- Serve as the voice of the user within cross-functional teams, ensuring decisions are grounded in credible, well-synthesized insight.
- Influence prioritization through clear articulation of user risk, opportunity, and impact.
METHODOLOGICAL EXPERTISE
- Design and execute advanced qualitative and quantitative research (e.g., in-depth interviews, usability testing, diary studies, segmentation, surveys, mixed-methods synthesis).
- Work with Data to integrate behavioral analytics with attitudinal insights.
- Build and evolve scalable research frameworks for a two-sided marketplace.
U.S. MARKET & COLLECTOR FOCUS
- Deeply understand collector and gallery behavior, and art market dynamics.
- Conduct in-market research with collectors and galleries along with unexplored markets.
- Serve as a key research presence for U.S. initiatives and experiments.
CRAFT & CAPABILITY BUILDING
- Elevate research standards across teams through frameworks and templates.
- Mentor mid-level researchers and guide project scoping.
- Contribute to long-term research operations and participant strategy.
WHAT WEβRE LOOKING FOR
- 5+ years of experience in UX or Product Research, ideally in marketplace, or luxury platforms.
- Demonstrated experience influencing senior stakeholders and shaping roadmap decisions.
- Strong systems thinking - able to connect user behavior, business metrics, and product design.
- Proven ability to independently lead large, ambiguous, high-stakes research initiatives.
- Experience working in distributed, global teams.
- Based in New York City and able to collaborate in real time with U.S. stakeholders.

The salary range for this role spans across multiple levels from $115,000- $130,000 annually. Artsy is committed to equitable compensation practices, and your offer will depend on the relevant experience and skillset you bring to the team.
