About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Design Lead to join Blackbird Interactive, an independent game studio focused on creating world-class IPs and original content. This role involves shaping high-quality gameplay experiences within a science fiction universe, guiding a team of designers, and ensuring cohesive, engaging gameplay.
Key Responsibilities
- →Work closely with project leadership and publishing partners to execute the creative vision across gameplay systems and features.
- →Lead and support a team of designers in implementing, tuning, balancing, and polishing gameplay features.
- →Provide mentorship and feedback to designers, helping them translate high-level direction into effective designs.
- →Collaborate with engineering to implement gameplay systems and tools that support design goals.
- →Partner with art and audio teams to ensure gameplay systems align with the intended player experience.
- →Communicate design goals and priorities clearly across disciplines.
- →Contribute hands-on to the implementation of gameplay content and systems as needed.
Requirements
- ✓At least 10 years of experience in game development, including 5+ years in design leadership or senior design roles.
- ✓Experience shipping at least one large-scale game with action-oriented or systems-driven gameplay.
- ✓Strong understanding of core gameplay execution, including player controls, camera behavior, and combat systems.
- ✓Demonstrated ability to mentor and review the work of other designers.
- ✓Comfort operating in a technical, fast-moving production environment.
- ✓Strong communication and collaboration skills across design, engineering, art, audio, and production.
- ✓Ability to implement gameplay content directly using in-engine tools and workflows.
