About the Role
Block's Cloud Economics team sits at the intersection of engineering strategy, financial stewardship, and operational decision-making. We optimize how Block allocates significant cloud investment and how engineering teams make tradeoffs between speed, reliability, and cost.
Key Responsibilities
- →Analyze cloud spend and usage across AWS, GCP, and related platforms
- →Build and maintain forecasting and cost models for business growth
- →Partner with engineering teams to improve resource efficiency
- →Develop and maintain tagging, cost allocation, and chargeback frameworks
- →Apply AI/ML techniques to improve cloud cost management
- →Work with engineering, finance, and procurement partners on optimization initiatives
- →Identify cross-team opportunities to improve pricing and cloud usage efficiency
- →Communicate insights to both technical and non-technical audiences
- →Build dashboards and automated reporting for cloud efficiency
- →Streamline analysis and reporting workflows with automation
Requirements
- ✓Strong analytical skills with SQL and data analysis
- ✓5+ years of experience in FinOps, cloud cost analysis, or related field
- ✓Working knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) and billing models
- ✓Interest in applying AI/ML to analytics and automation
- ✓Experience with data visualization, scripting, or infrastructure tooling
- ✓Exposure to large-scale or multi-cloud environments
- ✓Experience with cloud cost management and reporting tools
- ✓Familiarity with tagging, cost attribution, and usage-based pricing
- ✓Certifications in FinOps or cloud platforms
- ✓Analytical and detail-oriented with a pragmatic problem-solving approach
- ✓Collaborative and comfortable working across teams
- ✓Clear communicator who can tailor messages to different audiences
- ✓Curious and motivated to learn new tools and approaches
