As our value grows, so does our need for extraordinary people. Technical Writers at Checkout.com [Upgrade to PRO to see link] help build the next generation of financial products and online payment solutions through clear, consistent, quality technical content.
Reporting directly to the Senior Manager of Tech Writing, you’ll work with our growing team of technical writers and work on a rich variety of projects across our various content domains (technical documentation, API reference, support site). You’ll liaise with other writers, designers, marketers, and stakeholders of varying seniority at the intersection of diverse functions including Design, Product, User Research and Engineering.
You’ll also have experience working on technical product content and API or SDK references, adhering to a consistent style. You’ll be a self-driven and confident writer with experience in managing stakeholders and advocating for our users. You’ll have a keen interest in technology and the role that good written content plays in facilitating successful product integrations. You’ll have a strong understanding of Git and the Docs-as-Code approach, and knowledge of the OpenAPI (OAS) specification. You’ll be a keen adopter of cutting-edge processes and technologies, including AI, using them as a tool to improve individual and team output.

We operate in a hybrid working model, with three days in the office per week.

WE’D LIKE TO SEE
- Experience in online payments and/or in a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) business
- A strong understanding of Git and the Docs-as-Code approach and knowledge of the OpenAPI (OAS) specification.
- Experience documenting complex APIs
- Ability to read code in at least one programming language
- Familiarity with JSON, YAML, and Markdown
- Experience in leveraging content analytics and user research
- You’re open and curious about AI and how it can be used to optimize processes and improve content

THE FIRST 6 MONTHS
Month 1 - you’re familiar with the technical documentation and support site repository structures and are comfortable fixing minor issues across content pages. You’ve also met with members from across the product teams and have built a foundational understanding of Checkout’s various products and services.
Month 2 - you’re familiar with the API reference repository structure and can comfortably make changes to API documentation. You’re also regularly picking up new work from our team’s project board and have begun tackling more complex projects already scoped by other members of the team.
Months 3 and 4 - you’re beginning to independently research and document new feature ships. You’re also regularly reviewing contributions to the documentation from other writers and other internal contributors, and offering meaningful feedback.
Month 5 - you’re a proficient writer, comfortably leveraging our tools and processes and beginning to work autonomously in your product area. You can confidently advocate for our users.
Month 6 - you’re fully comfortable working in your product area and have a good understanding of our users and how best to serve them. You’re familiar with the research and data available to us, and are using it to inform your approach to documentation and continuous improvement.
