About the Role
We are looking for a Principal Engineer to join Cloudflare's Identity and Access Management (IAM) team. This role will serve as the technical north star for IAM and Control Plane strategy, focusing on the long-term health and architectural evolution of identity systems.
Key Responsibilities
- →Lead the design and evolution of high-throughput, low-latency IAM systems for customer-facing and internal service APIs
- →Define the roadmap for migrating legacy authentication and authorization systems into modern, distributed architectures
- →Work closely with Product, Security, and UX teams to translate business requirements into technical specifications
- →Set the standard for engineering excellence through code reviews, technical design documents, and mentoring
- →Oversee platform reliability, ensuring observability and resilience in the system
Requirements
- ✓10+ years of professional experience building and managing software applications at scale
- ✓Deep understanding of IAM protocols (OAuth2, OIDC, SAML), RBAC/ABAC models, and session management security
- ✓Proven track record in designing large-scale distributed systems for global traffic
- ✓Deep knowledge of Go, with expertise in TypeScript, Rust, or C++
- ✓Expert-level knowledge of relational databases and distributed caching/storage strategies
- ✓Significant experience designing public-facing APIs used by millions of developers
