About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our team at DeepL, a global AI product and research company focused on building secure, intelligent solutions. This role involves operating with the agency of a founder, architecting high-throughput billing engines, optimizing low-latency inference pipelines, and building the 'nervous system' of our internal platform.

Key Responsibilities

→Architect for Ambiguity & Scale: Design distributed systems that can handle 10x growth and make high-stakes technical decisions.
→Own Revenue-Critical Systems: Take full ownership of mission-critical services like Subscription Management, Identity, or API Gateways.
→Bridge the Technical & Business Gap: Translate complex backend constraints into business terms for Product Managers.
→Drive Technical Pragmatism: Prioritize maintainability and simplicity in code, working with our core stack (C#/.NET Core, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL).

Requirements

✓A 'Distributed Systems' Mindset: Understand the fallacies of distributed computing and design for failure.
✓High Agency & Bias for Action: Profile performance bottlenecks and propose refactors when needed.
✓Data Modeling Mastery: Strong opinions on data and understanding of trade-offs between SQL and NoSQL.
