About the Role
Elastic is seeking a Principal Software Engineer II to lead the architecture and implementation of Elasticsearch’s core authentication, authorization, and tenant-isolation primitives. This role involves delivering end-to-end security guarantees for distributed data stores, ensuring best-in-class security and identity management features at scale.
Key Responsibilities
- →Lead critical security initiatives from conception to delivery, defining technical strategy and roadmaps.
- →Develop foundational security models for intricate features and optimize security performance at massive scale.
- →Apply cryptographic solutions to address customer use cases and ensure robust data isolation.
- →Drive technical excellence and mentor senior engineers in development practices.
- →Act as a principal voice in architectural and design discussions, guiding the security posture of Elasticsearch.
Requirements
- ✓Expertise in Core Java and Concurrency, including JVM memory management and writing high-performance, thread-safe code.
- ✓Proven experience building scalable AuthZ systems with RBAC/ABAC models and cache invalidation strategies.
- ✓Strong understanding of distributed systems security, including node-to-node trust and secure transport.
- ✓Vision and roadmap development for authorization and data isolation features.
- ✓Deep knowledge of edge identity protocols like OAuth 2.0 and SAML.
- ✓Cross-team collaboration to ensure consistent security posture across the Elastic Stack.
