About the role: What's in the Box As a Backend Engineer working with our Consumer Alliance, you will define, secure, and implement technical solutions for business problems. You will speed up development, decision-making, and problem-solving. You will work with our neighboring teams to ensure that our efforts aim to achieve a clearer architecture and boundaries between tech teams to support autonomy. You will communicate directly with relevant business stakeholders and multiple tech teams supporting local markets. At HelloTech, flexibility and cross-functional collaboration are core to how we work. While this role is aligned to a specific Alliance, strong candidates may also be considered for opportunities across different teams or projects. What you’ll do: The Recipe • Design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and reliable backend services within a distributed microservices architecture. • Lead and actively contribute to the migration of legacy monolithic systems into well-defined microservices, ensuring high availability and seamless integration. • Own the full development lifecycle of backend components from technical design and implementation to testing, deployment, monitoring, and continuous • improvement in production environments. • Collaborate in architectural discussions and provide technical guidance to shape long-term system design, scalability strategies, and engineering standards. • Analyze system performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimizations to ensure efficiency, resilience, and reliability of critical services. • Conduct code reviews and promote best practices in software development, testing strategies, DevOps, and observability. • Work closely with Product Managers and cross-functional stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable and maintainable technical solutions. • Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends, applying relevant advancements to improve our technology stack and engineering processes. What you’ll bring: The Ingredients • Experience: Several years of professional experience in software engineering, with a strong focus on backend development and distributed systems. • Technical Skills: Proficiency in backend programming languages such as Go or Java, and strong knowledge of microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, and event-driven systems. • Architecture & Migration Experience: Hands-on experience designing scalable systems and migrating applications from monolithic architectures to microservices. • Cloud & Infrastructure: Practical experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP), containerization tools such as Docker, and orchestration frameworks like Kubernetes. • DevOps & Quality Mindset: Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing (unit and integration), monitoring, and production-grade system reliability practices. • Agile Ways of Working: Solid experience working in Agile, cross-functional teams with the ability to adapt to evolving priorities while delivering high-quality results. • Analytical Thinking: Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical challenges. • Communication & Collaboration: Effective written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts and collaborate with international stakeholders. • Experience with event streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka) or domain-driven design principles is a plus.
