About the Role
We are looking for a Platform Engineer to join OpenAI’s Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) organization. This role involves building new platform capabilities from scratch, grounded in real customer deployments, and working closely with customer-tagged FDE teams to provide hands-on leverage.
Key Responsibilities
- →Provide hands-on leverage to customer pods by embedding with teams to support generalization, contributing in architecture, product shaping, refactoring, and implementation.
- →Turn repeated signals into platform bets by translating cross-customer patterns into crisp hypotheses with clear success criteria, scope, and a validation plan.
- →Raise the engineering bar through tooling and mentorship by setting org-wide quality norms through code review and pairing, and building lightweight developer tooling.
- →Collaborate as part of cross-functional platform teams by partnering with B2B Product, customer-tagged FDEs, ops, and business partners.
- →Lead complex platform capabilities end-to-end when needed, acting as DRI from requirements through implementation.
Requirements
- ✓5+ years of software engineering or ML engineering experience with a track record of shipping 0→1 capabilities.
- ✓Experience in high-ambiguity, fast-iteration environments is a plus.
- ✓Ownership of customer-adjacent technical work end-to-end, from scoping and hypothesis-setting through production adoption.
- ✓Experience building or operating systems where reliability, security, and governance materially shaped design.
- ✓Ability to communicate clearly across engineering, product, go-to-market, and executive audiences.
