ROLE OVERVIEW
The Business Analyst / Product Owner at Payabli sits at the intersection of product strategy, technical delivery, and customer outcomes. Reporting to the Sr. Product Architect, this is a key role within Payabliโs product function, working closely with Product Architects, Platform Architects, and Engineering Teams to support the product backlog and drive sprint objectives through to successful completion.
You will own requirements, shape roadmap priorities, and drive cross-functional execution for Payabliโs card, ACH, digital wallet, and emerging payment capabilities. You are data-driven by nature and capable of pulling insights from complex datasets, deriving clear conclusions, and translating them into actionable product decisions. You are proficient in whiteboarding, creating flowcharts, wireframes, and mockups to communicate ideas with clarity, and skilled at facilitating discussions efficiently and keeping stakeholders aligned toward defined end objectives. You will work directly with engineering, operations, compliance, and go-to-market teams to ensure products are delivered on time, on spec, and on strategy.
WHAT YOUโLL DO
Product Ownership and Requirements
- Own end-to-end product requirements for payment features spanning card processing, ACH, digital wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Cash App Pay, Venmo), surcharging, and emerging modalities.
- Perform detailed money movement analysis across all payment modalities, tracing fund flows from authorization through settlement and funding to identify friction points, drive process improvements, and improve operational efficiency.
- Serve as the product organizationโs closest partner to the engineering team, ensuring requirements are understood deeply and unambiguously, implementation decisions stay true to product intent, and the voice of the business is always present in the room.
- Write detailed PRDs, user stories, and acceptance criteria that engineering can execute against without ambiguity.
- Maintain a well-groomed backlog and facilitate sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives with the engineering team.
- Translate complex payment industry requirements, including network rules, compliance mandates, and processor constraints, into clear actionable tickets.
- Perform data analysis on payment flows, transaction outcomes, and platform usage patterns and drive actionable conclusions to inform product decisions and identify improvement opportunities.
- Review API capabilities and product features against best-in-class industry standards and competitive benchmarks and recommend targeted improvements that advance Payabliโs differentiation.
- Lead User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for new features and enhancements, coordinating with QA and engineering to validate functionality against requirements before release.
Roadmap and Strategy
- Contribute to and maintain the product roadmap, balancing near-term delivery commitments with long-term strategic investments.
- Support OKR definition and track progress against key results for payment product initiatives.
- Conduct competitive analysis of payment processors and embedded payment platforms to inform prioritization decisions.
- Identify gaps and opportunities across Payabliโs nine verticals and help shape vertical-specific payment workflows.
- Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with engineering leads, QA, and platform architects to ensure technical feasibility and sound design decisions.
- Collaborate with compliance and legal on payment regulations including NACHA rules, card network mandates, and state-level requirements.
- Work closely with Customer Success and Sales to gather merchant feedback and translate it into product improvements.
- Prepare and present product updates, feature briefs, and roadmap overviews for internal stakeholders and external partners.
