About the Role

The Stripe Assistant team is transforming how users interact with Stripe by building an intelligent assistant that answers queries and resolves issues. As a Machine Learning Engineer, you'll own the end-to-end ML and agent architecture that makes Stripe Assistant safe, reliable, and useful.

Key Responsibilities

→Establish trustworthy execution for high-trust actions, prioritizing user control and transparency
→Define and evolve the Assistant’s capability and governance model across many tools and agents
→Improve answer quality by grounding in authoritative Stripe knowledge and live user data
→Apply optimal machine learning methods to improve Stripe Assistant’s performance
→Set and meet SLOs, build evaluation loops, and drive improvements in latency, cost, and availability
→Mentor engineers and uphold high standards for code quality and operational rigor

Requirements

✓5+ years in AI/ML and backend engineering
✓Applied LLM experience: RAG/embeddings, tool use/function calling, agentic planning, fine-tuning
✓Proficient in Python; strong distributed systems fundamentals
✓Experience working with product management, design, and cross-functional partners
