About the Role
TEGNA Inc. is seeking a Story Desk Editor to join KUSA, the NBC affiliate in Denver, CO. This hybrid role combines assignment editor and digital content producer skills to serve as the hub of the newsroom, driving daily editorial execution and curating impactful stories across multiple platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- →Lead and communicate newsroom coverage during breaking news, ensuring accuracy and urgency
- →Create comprehensive weekend plans including staffing, story pitches, and live guest schedules
- →Identify and plan community-focused stories using editorial judgment and social listening
- →Lead weekend editorial meetings and guide newsroom logistics
- →Create and edit engaging digital content for website, mobile app, and streaming platforms
- →Enhance storytelling with creative elements like graphics and video
- →Use metrics to inform coverage and improve audience reach
- →Uphold TEGNA’s journalistic standards across all platforms
Requirements
- ✓1–3 years of journalism experience in a local newsroom or digital production
- ✓Strong news judgment and ability to make fast editorial decisions under pressure
- ✓Excellent organizational skills for managing competing priorities
- ✓Strong writing skills with accuracy and speed
- ✓Experience with newsroom systems and CMS tools
- ✓Collaborative mindset that thrives in a team environment
- ✓Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or equivalent experience
