About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Principal Flight Software Engineer (Team Lead) to lead the development of the flight software stack for Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle. This critical role involves guiding a team of engineers to build and validate software systems that control and operate the spacecraft from launch to recovery.
Key Responsibilities
- βLead and mentor a team of flight software engineers in designing, implementing, testing, and integrating spacecraft software
- βOwn the technical roadmap and execution for flight software, including architecture and interfaces across subsystems
- βSet high standards for code quality, test coverage, simulation fidelity, and system robustness
- βDrive development in modern C++ (C++17 or newer) and Python for safe spacecraft operations
- βOversee development of test infrastructure, including unit, integration, and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing
- βCollaborate with systems engineering, GNC, propulsion, avionics, and mission operations teams
- βParticipate in code reviews, software audits, simulations, and mission rehearsals
Requirements
- βStrong proficiency in modern C++ (C++17 or newer) and Python
- βExperience with real-time systems, embedded development, or spacecraft software
- βDemonstrated ability to take ownership of complex technical problems
- βFamiliarity with software testing methodologies and simulation tools
- βExcellent cross-disciplinary communication and collaboration skills
- βGood understanding of math and physics
- βFocus on detail, quality, and testing
- βExperience with CI/CD systems and build systems
