About the Role
We're looking for a hands-on Infrastructure Engineer to strengthen the resilience of a client's on-premises VMware environment ahead of its migration to Azure. You'll validate the existing backup setup, build and test a disaster recovery plan, and help establish an incident response plan, working directly with the client's IT team under a tight timeline.
Key Responsibilities
• Assess the current VMware vSphere and Dell VxRail environment, including platform health, capacity, and single points of failure.
• Review the Barracuda backup configuration, coverage, schedules, retention, and offsite and immutable copies, and remediate gaps.
• Plan and carry out restore tests of critical systems in an isolated environment
• Map application and infrastructure dependencies to define the correct recovery sequence.
• Support business impact workshops to agree RTO and RPO targets with stakeholders.
• Write the DR plan and step-by-step recovery runbooks for critical systems.
• Create incident response plan, including roles, escalation paths, and playbooks for scenarios such as ransomware and system failure, and help run a tabletop exercise.
• Document findings, residual risks, and recommendations to support the Azure migration roadmap.
• Transfer knowledge to the client's IT team through clear documentation and walkthroughs.
Requirements
• Strong hands-on experience with VMware vSphere, vCenter and ESXi, ideally including vSAN or Dell VxRail.
• Hands-on experience with Barracuda Backup, including configuration, restore operations, and cloud replication.
• Proven experience performing VM, file-level and application restores, and validating recoverability.
• Solid Windows Server and Active Directory administration, including DNS and domain controller recovery.
• Working knowledge of SQL Server backup and restore, including application-consistent backups and transaction logs.
• Experience writing DR plans, runbooks, and technical documentation.
