About the Role We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to own the architecture, performance, and evolution of a federated GraphQL data platform powering large-scale, consumer-facing web experiences. Key Responsibilities • Own the GraphQL federation router strategy — adopt, extend, or build based on platform requirements • Evaluate and extend Apollo Router with custom plugins/coprocessors, authentication, caching, observability, and query governance • Evaluate alternatives such as Hive Router / Hive Gateway, Cosmo, or similar open-source solutions • Lead decisions around building a purpose-built router in Rust when required • Prototype, benchmark, and optimize latency, throughput, resilience, schema composition, and zero-downtime deployments • Own core GraphQL subgraphs, including Site Config and related domain services, end to end • Drive schema design, resolver optimization, reliability, testing, contracts, and SLOs • Support teams using Node.js/TypeScript, Scala, and Java/Spring with federation best practices • Build reusable templates, documentation, tooling, and guardrails to simplify onboarding new services • Shape and execute the multi-quarter platform roadmap with measurable improvements in performance, reliability, and developer experience Requirements • 8+ years of software engineering experience • Strong hands-on experience with GraphQL Federation and distributed systems • Experience with Apollo Router or comparable federation routers • Strong coding experience in Rust, Node.js/TypeScript, Scala, or Java/Spring • Proven ability to make architecture decisions using performance and operational data • Experience owning production services and driving reliability improvements • Strong communication and cross-team technical leadership skills
