About the Role

We are looking for a Technical Chief of Staff to the CTO at GitLab, an open-core software company developing an AI-powered DevSecOps Platform. This role will scale the impact of engineering leadership by bridging technical vision and day-to-day execution.

Key Responsibilities

→Lead the execution of the CTO's 3-year technical vision by aligning engineering and product strategy
→Drive the technical narrative for board materials, investor decks, and keynotes
→Document decisions and processes in the GitLab Handbook and orchestrate business rhythm
→Lead GitLab's internal AI transformation and LLM feature testing
→Implement standardized R&D metric frameworks to track engineering quality and efficiency
→Steward the engineering budget and optimize infrastructure and cloud spend
→Define and monitor organizational health metrics
→Serve as a trusted advisor and proxy to the CTO

Requirements

✓12+ years of executive operations experience, including 3+ years as a direct partner to an executive
✓Proven track record drafting Board of Directors materials or managing technical roadmaps
✓Experience leading company-wide technical programs impacting 1,000+ engineers
✓Previous experience as a Director of Engineering or Principal TPM overseeing global scale systems
✓Expert-level implementation of DORA or SPACE frameworks
✓Experience leading org-wide change management for departments with budgets exceeding $50M
✓Exceptional ability to synthesize complex technical information for executive briefs
