About the Role We are looking for an experienced Database Migration Expert to lead enterprise database migrations from Oracle to PostgreSQL. This role requires strong hands-on experience in schema conversion, PL/SQL migration, large-scale data migration, performance optimization, and low-downtime production cutovers. Key Responsibilities • Assess Oracle databases, schemas, PL/SQL code, dependencies, data volumes, and migration risks • Design PostgreSQL target architecture, including high availability, replication, backup, and security • Convert Oracle schemas, packages, procedures, functions, triggers, and sequences to PostgreSQL/PL/pgSQL • Replace Oracle-specific features with PostgreSQL equivalents • Execute data migration with integrity validation and minimal downtime • Plan production cutovers, change data capture (CDC), logical replication, and rollback strategies • Optimize PostgreSQL queries, indexes, vacuum settings, memory, and connections • Collaborate with application teams on SQL updates, drivers, ORM mappings, and connection pooling • Develop migration automation, runbooks, and operational documentation Requirements • 7+ years of database engineering or administration experience • 3+ years of hands-on production Oracle-to-PostgreSQL or comparable heterogeneous database migrations • Strong Oracle 11g–19c expertise, including PL/SQL, RAC, Data Guard, partitioning, and execution plans • Strong PostgreSQL 13+ expertise, including PL/pgSQL, indexing, partitioning, MVCC, vacuum, and replication • Experience with Ora2Pg, AWS Schema Conversion Tool, AWS Database Migration Service, pgloader, Debezium, or Oracle GoldenGate • Advanced SQL and scripting skills in Python, Bash, or similar • Experience with multi-terabyte databases, performance tuning, data validation, and low-downtime cutovers • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills • Bachelors degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience
