About the Role
The Technical Writing & Documentation team at Datadog creates engaging and informative technical content, particularly our public product documentation: Datadog Docs. This role involves hands-on work with technologies that Datadog monitors and collaboration with technical and product teams to create documentation for APIs, SDKs, developer and security tools, and community developed integrations.
Key Responsibilities
- →Partner with product and engineering teams to lead documentation projects and create public user documentation for security, observability, and automation products used by developers, SREs, and security engineers.
- →Gather technical details for public documentation by reviewing internal product materials and hands-on testing of products.
- →Create developer-facing documentation and guides for Datadog SDKs, APIs, and developer tools to enable the developer community to onboard and succeed with our products.
- →Collaborate with the documentation team to help maintain documentation standards and contribute to ongoing process improvements.
- →Participate in a business-hours interrupt-handling rotation to respond to documentation questions, requests, and issues as they come up.
- →Review and provide editorial feedback on documentation written by others to help maintain quality and consistency.
- →Provide coaching, mentoring, and guidance to others on the team.
Requirements
- ✓Experienced technical writer with at least 5 years of experience writing technical documentation for developers, SREs, and security engineers.
- ✓Experience in using Markdown, a static-site generator, and GitHub to develop and publish documentation with a ‘Docs as Code’ approach.
- ✓Comfortable and familiar with using basic Python and reading at least 1 other programming language (e.g., Java, Ruby).
- ✓Comfortable and familiar with modern infrastructure concepts such as cloud services and containers.
- ✓Publicly available technical writing samples.
- ✓Experience managing large and complex documentation sets and developing well-structured and effective information architecture.
- ✓Experience using AI tools as part of documentation work.
