Role Summary
The Senior Manager of Physical Security owns the strategy, architecture, implementation, and day-to-day operation of physical security across active data center campuses. This role designs and governs the full security ecosystem, including access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, perimeter security, and guard force operations.
The role leads security contractors, integrators, and guard providers, and ensures systems operate reliably, comply with regulatory and customer requirements, and support 24/7 mission-critical operations.
This position operates at both the system architecture and operational execution levels. It establishes standards and drives continuous improvement across campuses.
Travel: Ability to travel approximately 50% for customer meetings, company gatherings, and project sites.
Location: Denver, CO (3 day hybrid in-office role) strongly preferred (remote may be considered for exceptional candidates)
Compensation: $150-$175K (Offers Bonus)
Essential Responsibilities
Security Systems Architecture & Design
- Lead end-to-end physical security system design for new and existing data center campuses
- Develop campus-level security architecture standards, including:
1. Access control systems (ACS)
2. Video management systems (VMS)
3. Intrusion detection systems (IDS)
4. Perimeter detection and fencing
5. Vehicle barriers and anti-ram systems
6. Security command center integration
- Partner with Engineering, Construction, IT, and Development during design and commissioning phases
- Approve shop drawings, submittals, and integration designs from vendors and contractors
- Standardize hardware platforms and integration approaches across campuses
Operational Oversight (24/7 Active Campuses)
- Own day-to-day performance of all physical security systems
- Establish SLAs and KPIs for uptime, incident response, and system reliability
- Lead incident response for physical security events
- Oversee badge access governance, permissions, and audit controls
- Ensure accurate logging, retention, and evidentiary chain-of-custody procedures
- Conduct recurring system audits and vulnerability assessments
- Maintain system documentation, diagrams, and configuration records
Contractor & Guard Force Management
- Manage physical security contractors and integrators.
- Lead guard force vendor oversight including:
1. Staffing models
2. Post orders
3. Training requirements
4. Performance reviews
5. Escalation procedures
- Conduct quarterly business reviews with vendors
- Enforce compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations
- Validate contractor work quality and commissioning standards
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with:
1. Customer security requirements
2. SOC, ISO, and industry standards
3. Local, state, and federal regulations
- Develop and maintain physical security policies, standards, and SOPs
- Support audit preparation and corrective action closure
- Maintain security risk register and mitigation plans
Risk Management & Continuous Improvement
- Conduct campus-level threat and vulnerability assessments
- Develop mitigation strategies aligned to enterprise risk tolerance
- Lead lessons-learned reviews following incidents
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives for detection, deterrence, and response effectiveness
- Benchmark security posture against industry best practices
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive experience in physical security leadership
- 5+ years in mission-critical or high-security environments (data centers, utilities, defense, or similar)
- Demonstrated experience designing and deploying enterprise-scale access control and video systems
- Experience managing multi-site or campus-scale security operations
- Contractor and vendor management experience
- Strong understanding of layered security architecture and CPTED principles
- Ability to lead incident response and crisis coordination
- Strong technical fluency with networked security systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in hyperscale data center environments
- PSP, CPP, or similar security certification
- Experience integrating physical security with IT and OT cybersecurity controls
- Background in military, federal security, or critical infrastructure environments
