We have an opportunity for an qualified Finance Leader, experienced as a FD and track record in operational high volume businesses to join our Senior Leadership Team at Octopus Energy Services, ready to finance the energy transition at real scale!
In this role, you will lead our core finance functions - Financial Management & Accounting, Financial Operations, Financial Risk, and Pricing. You will also support our Strategic Finance team in financial planning. You'll sit on the leadership team and report into our OES CEO, partnering with other senior leaders across our low carbon tech teams, flexibility and manufacturing. Octopus energy is our shareholder and funds significant deployment through OES so you'll need to think like an owner whilst building for growth! It's a high complexity team we're serious about investing into low carbon installations and creating propositions that are new to the market for our customers.
You'll balance margin, cash, whilst gaining scaling volume fast and protecting unit economics as we grow is critical. You’ll be responsible for performance, planning and development across each area in finance including leading a team of exceptional people to unlock their full potential.
Operationally this isn't just a desk job, think about engineers across the country, supply chains to manage, depots to stock and all of that must flex with demand; you'll need to be comfortable challenging conventional thinking. Octopus Energy Services is spearheading the transition to greener, cheaper energy through the installation of in-home technologies; from smart meters and EV chargers; to low carbon heating, home batteries, solar, and beyond. We deliver smart energy, low carbon solutions for our customers.
Financial Leadership & Strategy
• Set and execute financial strategy to drive sustainable growth and margin improvement
• Lead planning, budgeting, forecasting, and performance management across all divisions
• Drive improvements in pricing, working-capital efficiency, and financial control
Commercial & Operational Finance
• Partner with operations and sales Directors to translate operational data into actionable financial insight
• Improve unit economics and reduce cost-to-serve across installation and logistics operations
• Support new propositions to drive further scale and opportunity
Governance & Risk
• Ensure strong financial controls, compliance, and reporting
• Oversee cashflow, capital planning, and risk management
• Act as a key interface with auditors, regulators, and the wider Octopus Energy Group
Leadership & Culture
• Build, develop and inspire a high-performing finance team embedded across the business
• Drive collaboration between finance, operations and technology to drive data-led decision-making
• Be a key member of the OES executive team, shaping strategy, culture and long-term growth
About you
• You’ll be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with senior leadership experience in a complex, high-growth or operationally intensive business.
• Highly commercially savvy with a track record of delivering results and influencing at executive level
• Hands-on, pro-active and analytical, able to move seamlessly between boardroom strategy and operational detail
• Passionate about renewable energy, sustainability and building organisations that do good while doing well
• Thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven, tech-enabled culture
• Have experience in high growth multifaceted organisations, drivingchange, innovation and disruption of status quo
• Able to guide the operational leaders on which activities are most impactful
• Be on the pitch - this isn’t a role of analysis from the sidelines
