About the Role
Vox is seeking an Executive Editor to lead their politics and policy journalism. This leader will define Vox’s vision for political coverage in 2026 and beyond, ensuring work serves audiences outside the political bubble and connects with the next generation.
Key Responsibilities
- →Oversee three editorial teams: Politics, Policy, and Ideas; Today, Explained and Explain It to Me; and Even Better and Lifestyle.
- →Shape vision and strategy for Vox’s political journalism, centering audiences who feel overlooked by traditional coverage.
- →Direct daily, short-, and long-term editorial plans, balancing original pieces and responsive news coverage.
- →Develop coverage strategies for newer audiences, politically disengaged readers, and younger news consumers.
- →Ensure journalism is accessible and grounded in real-world questions, not just political insider narratives.
- →Identify opportunities to grow reach through new formats and multiplatform storytelling.
- →Mentor team members at all levels, helping them develop ideas and strengthen reporting.
- →Oversee editorial strategy for Today, Explained and Explain It to Me podcasts.
- →Strengthen collaboration between text, audio, and video teams for cohesive coverage.
- →Work with senior leadership to shape coverage around major political moments.
- →Coordinate cross-newsroom efforts around major projects and initiatives.
Requirements
- ✓10+ years of political journalism experience, including at least 5 years managing editorial teams.
- ✓A track record of original political or policy journalism that reaches audiences beyond traditional political news consumers.
- ✓Strong vision for how political coverage needs to evolve with concrete ideas for Vox’s future direction.
- ✓Exceptional editorial judgment and the ability to cut through noise with clarity and insight.
- ✓Demonstrated success developing talent and cultivating collaborative, inclusive teams.
- ✓Strong understanding of executing high-quality explanatory work across mediums and platforms.
- ✓Experience working with or overseeing audio teams is a strong plus.
- ✓Commitment to Vox’s mission to help audiences understand what really matters.
